Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation "Nothing great is easy", Captain Matthew Webb

Role of the CS&PF

The Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation assist swimmers to achieve their goal of swimming the English Channel.

We register every pilot annually to check they have the relevant qualifications, and that their escort boats are certified by the UK Authorities to escort swimmers across the Channel.

We check that all Channel aspirants have passed a medical examination, and have done a 'assessment swim', before they attempt their swim.

We ensure that all swims are witnessed by one of our official CS&PF observers.

Only swims which adhere to CS&PF rules and English Channel rules will be classified as successful by the CS&PF Ratifiers.”
