Jody Jones

With great sadness we report the death of Jody Jones

Jody died on Monday 7th November 2022.

We lost someone special in Jody Jones, wife to Rich, mother to two girls, friend to many and an English Channel soloist.

Jody was more than a truly remarkable lady, and all the lives she touched are all the better for it.  She was kind, tenacious, generous, fun and bright as a button. In her traditional enthusiastic and energetic manner, she gave valuable time and energy to the CSPF Committee in 2022, adding huge insights and intelligence.

Jody swam the English Channel in 2019, in between cycles of chemotherapy, only being able to swim on certain days of the week where she wasn't hooked up to treatment!

She was a true inspiration to many, and her 'can do' attitude was humbling and motivating. She just loved being in the water, and to those who ever swam with her, it was clear she felt at ease there and it made her happy.

Jody’s happiness, is one enormous quality we will all miss.

When it came to the crunch, Jody did more than ‘grasp the nettle’ as she always seemed to capably tame the nettles in her path.

When Jody swam the English Channel Solo in 2019, she had Stage 4 bowel cancer, and was on her 22nd cycle of chemotherapy.

Consider her logistics challenges. There were only two days each week, that summer, when she could have attempted to swim to France from Dover. Each week she endured chemo for two days, was too unwell for the next two days, and couldn’t swim the day before the chemo of the following week.

It was more than an emotional occasion for us all, and particularly Jody, when she heroically swam solo from England to France in 18 hours and 14 minutes.

Outside of swimming she was a warm and devoted mother to two lovely girls, and a loving wife to Rich who many would have met during his unerring support of her endeavours.

Music was also a key part of her life. Jody was a loyal member of the Military Wives Choir, and she performed with panache at many prestigious venues. Jody gave everything she had to those around her. We will miss her.

Jody was one in a million.

Our love and sympathy go to Rich and her daughters.

Rest In Peace Jody
