Comment"In the 1950s, Georges Pourcelle, this tall, sympathetic blonde raising a victorious arm in front of the Matelote building, was a famous figure on the beach. Each summer, this ArmentiƩrois was recruited as a lifeguard. On September 6, 1958, he swam across the Channel in the direction Calais-Dover in thirteen hours and one minute, a feat timed by the police sergeant. Georges Pourcelle was thus the 5th Frenchman to succeed in the crossing in this direction."
