2014 Dover Harbour training starts on Saturday 3rd May

The 'Dover Beach Team' have announced the arrangements for the start of Dover Harbour training for 2014.

Dover Harbour sessions will start on Saturday 4rd May: please read the message below from the Dover beach crew. Whether you're planning to train at Dover or not, see our Training guidance under the "Swim" section of the site.

Message from Emma France:

Good afternoon

Please find attached the form for this year's Dover training, please bring it with you already completed, this will need to be done before you can swim.

Please read the following carefully:

Dover training will be every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 3rd May to the end of September.

There is a facebook page that you are welcome to join. This will be used to announce things like changes of times / locations and is an ideal place to ask questions and find crew etc.  The group can be found here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/283669391781871/

ESSENTIAL:

Solo swimmers will need to bring a RED  swimming hat and be on the beach and ready to swim by 9am

The price for solo / long distance swimmers will be £30 for the season (feeds are included when required for longer swims)

Relay swimmers will need to bring a YELLOW swimming hat and be on the beach and ready to swim by 10am

The price for relay / shorter distance swimmers will be £5  for the season (no feeds are included)

Please be aware that the beach crew are volunteers.  While guidance is given this is not formal training, it is not affiliated to any other organisation and no safety cover is provided.  It is important that you understand that you SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISKplease look out for each other.

This is not a profit making venture, your payment will be solely used for swimmer supplies and out of pocket expenses such as parking permits for the beach crew.  Advice and encouragement is provided free of charge!!

Everyone is welcome and if you choose to join us in Dover please respect a few simple guidelines that will help us to help you:

  1. Be on time.  It is hard to keep track of dozens of swimmers, this becomes almost impossible if people arrive at different times.

  2. Check yourself in and out of each swim and soloists must give their number at each feed.  We do not want lifeboats and helicopters looking for a swimmer who is actually tucked up in a cosy cafe having their lunch!

  3. Keep swimming.  The beach crew do not volunteer for you to have a nice chat with your mates while getting wet, and if you're not moving you are getting colder

We're really looking forward to seeing you all and let's hope the sun continues to shine throughout the 2014 season.

Regards

Emma

PS, please feel free to share any photos of training and on your big day on the Facebook group and I'd also appreciate if you could send me some - it'll make putting the photo montage together that I do far easier.
