03 Sep 2012Live Swims Tracking
We have published two new pages on our website tonight, just in time for Stuart Johnson's epic 3-way attempt.
From tonight the CS&PF website features two new pages:
- Live swims tracking: http://cspf.co.uk/tracking. The data for this page has been provided courtesy of two popular AIS tracking websites, shipais.com and vtexplorer.com - we have their permission to collect and publish CS&PF boats' data on our website in this combined feed.
The usual disclaimers and notes on AIS feeds apply: data may be incomplete, signals are a lot more consistent closer to England etc. However we hope this combined data feed will improve on any individual source. Note that the info windows on each boat marker feature a link to: - Swim tracks page: http://cspf.co.uk/swim-routes. This page features a form enabling a search and display of the historical AIS data - only those collected since 24th July 2012 when we got the first live feed. The markers' info popups are cross-referenced to the Sandettie data feed - so now you can check what the conditions were during a particular hour or day. On the top of the map you have the link back to the live tracking page - handy for to-ing and fro-ing on busy nights!
Both pages' maps feature shipping lanes and major markers and buoys in the Channel... there are lots of features to play around with. We think it is very appropriate to publish these pages on the night when Stuart Johnson is about to complete his 2nd leg of his awesome 3-way attempt - enjoy!
We hope you will be just as excited as we are - please contact us and send us your comments and suggestions.
