Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation "Nothing great is easy", Captain Matthew Webb

14 Jun 2020Coronavirus/ Covid-19 Update

Members & Swimmers,

The CS&PF Committee has continued to monitor the constraints put in place by the UK Government, and although lockdown is easing across the UK, guidelines that set out the restrictions on the types of escort vessels operated by our pilots have been issued on 11th June by the British Government : UK Goverment Guidence Link

The impact of these guidelines as they state at the moment is to prevent escort vessels and crews from working at sea until further notice There is no date given for any reviews or modification and/or the lifting of these restrictions, however there may be the chance to get some swims away later in the season as restrictions are easing. Please keep in contact with your pilot for updates and the planning of your swim situation.

We will continue to monitor the situation and work with the CS&PF pilots to revise and update the impact the regulations in place have on CS&PF swims as soon as further information becomes available. The link given above to the British Government web site is a good direct source for changes in direction reference restrictions.

The committee will submit the 2020 Pilots Swim lists to the UK and French authorities as is the agreed practice with a flexible, provisional start date of the 10th July so that if there is a change in the regulations reference the swim data it can be updated and is registered and in place and ready for swimmers and their pilot to arrange to go if the opportunity arises.

We hope that the reopening of some outdoor recreational activities, including for open water swimming, is allowing you all to get back into the water and to enjoy any training. We wish you good luck with resuming your swimming and training in these uncertain and difficult times.

Please keep in contact with your pilot for all your swim planning and updates.

As ever, stay safe,
Best wishes
CS&PF Committee
